The old fishing town of Ferragudo is one of the most beautiful places in the Algarve. The village is situated at the mouth of the River Arade, which flows into the Atlantic. Just opposite and connected by the old bridge is the bustling port of Portimao and the well known party place 'Praia da Rocha'.
Characteristic are the small fishing boats, which lie slightly obliquely on the dry ground at low tide. Against the light, the setting sun is reflected in the sea and the remaining water around the boats shine silver.
In the small streets of Ferragudo, life still has a very quiet course today.
No hassle - lots of serenity.
Stroll through Ferragudo and take a closer look at the village. You'll get a feeling for the past very quickly. It is as if time had stood still in this place, because many things still look like 100 years ago.
By the way, you also get an impression of the Portuguese attitude by the small alleys and the many steps. In addition, the old small houses, which are often kept in white or various friendly colors and are mostly decorated with different flowers. In front of these small buildings women still wash their clothes as before and hang them on the balcony. And at lunchtime the sardines are then grilled.
Do you like typical portuguese shopping? Then the little stores, called 'Mercados' are the right choice.
In a shop like this, one remarks immediately that the people of the Algarve are always very friendly and helpful. Another particularly interesting place is the market hall. Here you can buy daily fresh fish, other seafood, fruits and vegetables.
There are also various cafes and pubs, the post office and various restaurants.Especially in the evening hours, this place is an ideal meeting place because you can eat and drink very well.
Every weekend, a Portuguese festival takes place at this market place. Anyone who has already participated will know how Portuguese familys celebrate. Everyone knows each other and tourists from other countrys are welcome.
If you want to enjoy a wonderful view over Ferragudo, the port entrance of Portimao and the Atlantic, you should go to the highest point of the town.
Here you can find a pretty little church, which is really worth seeing.
So if you have never been to the Algarve in Ferragudo, just let yourself be enchanted by this beautiful village!
The Vila Monte Luz awaits you!
The Vila Monte Luz with its subtropical garden is located in a top beach location directly in the bay of Ferragudo. Ideal to enjoy carefree and relaxing holidays.

And when your personal BBQ-pitmaster is well prepared, you can then enjoy a delicious meal at the barbeque area.
Or you can visit the many adjoining localities, which are only a 'stones throw' away.
On the other side of the river and within sight of the Vila Monte Luz, is the exclusive port of Portimao and the "mile" of Praia da Rocha. Always gladly, our guests discover the versatile tourist offers e.g. Praia da Rocha can be reached by using the water taxi from Ferragudo in just a few minutes. A little further: due to its outstanding location, Vila Monte Luz has been the home of the "Comandante do Porto" for a long time.
By the way, the word "Vila" isn't spelled wrong on all our pages. In Portuguese, "villa" is actually written with only one 'l'. Also the pronunciation of Monte Luz is unusual - it is spoken like Monte Loosh (pronounced as "oosh" in the word "douche"): and "Luz" means "light".

Traveling by car from Faro airport
To Ferragudo, Vila Monte Luz, Rua Dr. Coelho de Carvalho - last house on the left with the blue gate at the end of the impasse before the beach access.
- From the airport you take the Freeway direction to Lisbon and Lagos. After 10 minutes or about 12 km, you reach the Highway A22 / A2. After approximately 20 km the A22 separates from the A2, which leads right towards Lisbon.. However, continue straight on the A22 towards Portimao / Lagos until the Lagoa / Silves exit(exit no. 6).
- After the exit, you will pass several roundabouts, heading towards Estombar and then towards Estombar / Portimao to the N 125. Take the N 125 to the next exit, which is signposted with Ferragudo, Estombar, Parchal (Be sure to take this exit, otherwise you will pass a bridge towards Portimao / Lagos, which is a large detour.)
- Go straight through the suburbs and Parchal with its roundabouts until you reach the village exit with its large roundabout (here you will see the LIDL supermarket on the left).Go through the roundabout and always follow the signs to Ferragudo for further roundabouts.
- After about 2 km you reach the town of Ferragudo. Take the second bridge on the right and then turn left again.Always follow the road. After 100 meters, turn right uphill (at the Babalu restaurant). At the top, drive downhill until the left turn.
- Down here in the left-bend leave the previous road and go straight for about 20 meters in the direction to the sea (so do not turn left on the road uphill to Cavoeiro). Here you can see the brown sign "Praia Grande" . Now turn left and follow the castle wall for about 200 meters. On the top, the last house is the the Vila Monte Luz which lies to your left hand.
If you have done everything right, you have now arrived after about 50 minutes 
and the holidays can begin. The Vila Monte Luz, Rua Dr. Coelho de Carvalho - last house on the left with the blue gate at the end of the impasse- welcomes you warmly.
